Doctor Who – Blink

Anyone that knows me knows that Doctor Who is one of my favourite things ever. I only got into it when it was revived back in 2005 but have been a fan ever since.

The Doctor light episodes have become a regular occurrence since the shows return. They basically free up the actor for filming of the big finale. The first of these episodes “Love and Monsters” was awful but the one from the following season is one of the best episodes of Doctor Who.

Blink follows the best companion that never was, Sally Sparrow, who is investigating the disappearance of her best friend. Unbeknownst to Sally her friend was taken by the terrifying Weeping Angels.

The Weeping Angels were, at the time, new to Doctor Who. They resemble stone statues and can only move when they are not being observed. If they touch you they send you back in time and feed off your time energy. This of course happens to the Doctor and companion Martha who get stranded in the 1960s, unable to go anywhere due to the Tardis being in the present day.

During her investigation Sally comes across the Tardis and more importantly DVD easter eggs left by the Doctor. These easter eggs form one of the best parts of the episode where Sally has a conversation with the Doctors pre-recorded video. This was all possible thanks to some wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff. Ultimately Sally sends the Tardis to the Doctor and tricks the Angels into seeing each other, stopping them from moving.

The episode ends before the Doctor and Martha are sent back in time. Sally hands off all the information she gathers to the Doctor allowing him to send the easter egg messages. Like I said wibbly wobbly timey wimey.

Not only do we get a great and scary story. We are also introduced to Sally who would make a awesome companion, something which will probably never happen now unfortunately.
